Great Rajputana king, Maharana Pratap was born on 9th May, 1540 in the house of Maharana Uday Singh II & Jeewant Kawar at Kumbhalgarh fort. Maharana Udai Singh II was the ruler of Mewar at that time with capital Chittor. At that time, almost part of modern India was under the control of Mughal emperor but Maharana Pratap did not submitted his Mewar completely to Mughals and fought the famous Battle of Haldighati to save his empire. Maharana Pratap remained in forests for more than 20 years but never gave up & tried hard to save his motherland till his motherland.   • Maharana Pratap was the eldest son of famous Rajputana ruler, Maharana Udai Singh II who was the ruler of Mewar.
  • Maharana Pratap’s mother name was Jeewant Kawar and she was the first queen of Maharana Udai Singh.
  • Maharana Udai Singh II got more than 25 sons from different wives but Maharana Pratap was the eldest in them and became the ruler of Mewar after death of Maharana Udai Singh.
  • Maharana Pratap got married to eleven queens and blessed with 17 sons and 5 daughters in total.

Maharana Pratap History, Wiki & Biography:

  • Maharana Pratap always has a keen interest in learning war tactics, sword fencing & archery from the childhood and he mastered himself in all these arts in a short time.
  • In order to capture Mewar, Mughal army attacked Chittor in 1567 & Maharana Udai Singh had to leave Chittor with his family secretly to Gogunda despite Maharana Pratap wants to battle with Mughals.
  • Some portion of Mewar including Chittor was under the control of Mughals after 1567 & Maharana Udai Singh got died in 1572 at Gogunda.
  • Maharana Udai Singh wants to nominate prince Jagmal as next Maharana but majority of his ministers opposes his decision and prince Pratap was nominated as successor of Maharana Udai Singh.
  • In order to get the title of Jahanpanah of Hindustan, emperor Akbar wants to capture entire Mewar where majority of portion was still under the rule of Maharana Pratap.
  • Akbar knows that Maharana Pratap was a brave ruler, so he sent several diplomatic missions in order to make a treaty where Maharana Pratap accepts Akbar’s suzenainty but Maharana Pratap never accepted such proposal.
  • In a final attempt, he sent Raja Man Singh to persuade Maharana Pratap to make a treaty to accept Mughal suzerainty but Maharana Pratap rejected this offer as well.
  • Finally a battle took place between Rajputs under Maharana Pratap rule and Mughals under Raja Man Singh & Asif Khan on 18th June, 1576 & that battle is known as Battle of Haldighati.
  • Maharana Pratap was having nearly 20,000 soldiers & Mughals were having a strong army of nearly 1 lakh soldiers but Maharana Pratap fought with bravery and skills & weakened Mughal army.
  • Unfortunately, he had to leave the battleground on the advice of his ministers such that he can continue his march towards Mughals. In the battle of Haldighati, Maharana Pratap lost his favourite horse, Chetak who lost his life in order to save Maharana’s life.
  • He remained in forests and made a army of Bhils & local people and continued his struggle to capture his empire from Mughals.
  • He fought with bravery for years and finally got success to regain control over some parts of Mewar including Gogunds, Kumbhalgarh & Udaipur. He made Chavand as his capital.
  • During a hunting mission, he got severe injuries & finally got died on 19th January, 1597 at the age of 56 years.
